About
Discovery Centre, a registered charitable organization, was incorporated in 1985 and opened in October of 1990 with the following mission: “To stimulate interest, enjoyment and understanding of science and technology through innovative, exciting, hands-on experiences for all Nova Scotians.”
By cultivating a positive educational environment that gives children the opportunity to ask “why” and to see “how”, the Discovery Centre offers unlimited possibilities for young minds to learn about the world around them, and in turn embark on a life-long journey of discovery that will lead them to become Nova Scotia’s next generation of thinkers, visionaries and leaders.
Recognized for excellence in experiential education, Discovery Centre houses a number of permanent and temporary exhibits at its downtown Halifax location, and offers award-winning internal and external curriculum-based educational programming to students across Nova Scotia. In addition, the Centre offers a variety of special events, community programming, HD films, camp programs and live science shows.
In 2013, the Discovery Centre will embark on an exciting new period of growth as it moves to the Halifax waterfront and its new, purpose-built home in the Nova Scotia Power Headquarters. This new facility, almost double the size of our existing space, will offer better accessibility, improved and expanded space, research capabilities and new and dynamic areas for discovery.
