Our award winning programs offer informative, inspiring and interactive opportunities to learn about a variety of subject matter, all curriculum-connected, and all taught by our trained Educational Staff.

Science on the Road – Grades P-6

Nova Scotia’s only province-wide science education outreach program, SOTR offers programming for students in primary to grade 6. Programs are between 45 and 60 minutes in length and are all curriculum-connected.

Beneath the Surface – NEW

Discover what’s happening “Beneath the Surface” in these new workshops. Grade 7 students will learn about the wonders beneath their feet in our geology workshop that will explore different kinds of rocks and minerals, how they are formed and what they can tell us about the history of the Earth. Grade 8 students will leave the land behind and dive deep into the marvels and mysteries of the sea, including a look at the relationships within marine systems and between the ocean and humanity.

NEW! Inspiring Discovery – Grades 9, 10 and 11

This exciting new program will break the mould on what it means to be a scientist today. Working with Dalhousie University scientists and researchers who are working on cutting-edge developments in science and technology, we will help high school students discover just how cool science can be through an interactive, tech-savvy and truly unique workshop. Available exclusively in the HRM.

Coming in 2012! CURA H2O – Grades 7, 9

This innovative new program, coming January 2012, will teach students how to test water quality, help them understand why it’s so important, show them how advancements in monitoring technology are making a dramatic difference in water stewardship and provide an eye-opening look into the hazards of neglectful environmental practices.

Above and Beyond – All Grades

Step into the immersive world of starry skies in our digital inflatable planetarium for a one-of-a-kind introduction to astronomy. While gazing up at the stars, students will learn how to identify asterisms, constellations, galaxies and more in the Discovery Centre’s most popular program ever! Available in September, November, January, March and May only.
